      A bar in midtown east called Ginger Man is the best. 

      (36th between Madison and 5th)

      It can get crowded between 5pm and 8pm with the after work crowd though.

      Another good beer bar in midtown east is a spot called Rattle and Hum. 
      (14 east 33rd)  A very long happy hour there.
