What's Greenpoint NY like to live in?  How does it compare to it's infamous neighbor, Williamsburg?

Greenpoint NY has come a long way in the last 10 years, as a lot of Williamsburg hipsters have moved to Greenpoint for slightly lower rents. Greenpoint has a good neighborhood vibe. It has lower than average crime and lower than average rents. It has a good variety of cafes and inexpensive restaurants (even a Starbucks in an old movie theater, possibly the biggest Starbucks outside of Manhattan). It is not served as well as Williamsburg by public transportation, but it will always be known as the crossroads between Brooklyn and Queens. The NYC Marathon goes through Greenpoint NY, which is very nice the first SUnday of November. Might be worth checking out for yourself. "

Greenpoint NY is now considered much more hip than williamsburg. It's much more industrial than williamsburg, more gritty.. williamsburg probably has a lot more going on -- nightlife, restaurants, etc. but there are also a lot more new condos, so those people who like williamsburg before gentrification are going to Greenpoint NY right to the north. "

It's a nice community. Very polish and young artist in terms of demographics. You also have to rely on the G train which has issues.

Greenpoint NY is very nice - still a lot of nice restaurants and cute shops, but less overrun by hipsters "
